So with day two of the 2014 eCommerce expo in full swing, now is perhaps a good time to take a step back and reflect on what was a very busy but eventful day yesterday.
The day started at 8am sharp, in a typically British fashion – queuing outside the exhibitor’s entrance – everyone eager to get in and attend to their stands. After wandering around the massive venue that is London Olympia, and after a team effort to set up our stand – we were ready to go.
From the minute that the doors opened the visitors began to flood in. I can’t decide whether it was our wonderful team that managed to attract passers-by to our stand, or the free sweets on offer, but our booth was buzzing all day.
In between talking to visitors about their global expansion plans and their need for website localisation, guests were keen to try their hand at our Capita Buzz wire game. Not for the shaky handed – the game involves guiding a metal ring from one side of a wiggly wire to the other without the two metal components touching and setting off a loud ‘buzz’. So far, Milo from Indigo Herbs and Craig from Gym Shark are heading up the leader-board, both with a very impressive 23 seconds!
At 1:45pm I was very excited to attend a presentation given by Tom Head from Lab about the influence that digital has had on the retail market. Tom walked us through a series of developments that have led to consumers having a much more personalised experience when shopping on the high street. Tom’s message couldn’t ring more true with our own – tailoring a shopping experience to your customer’s preferences can only be a good thing. It’s what we’ve been saying all along…speak to your customers in a way that they can identify with, in a language that they can understand. The desire for a personalised customer experience is evidently on the increase.
After lunch it was back to our stand for more in-depth discussions about the power of language in eCommerce. It was very interesting talking to visitors about their growing needs for taking their online retail businesses to new markets.
Day one was hectic, but day two is shaping up to be even more so! If you think that you can beat Milo and Craig on our Capita Buzz wire, make sure you stop by stand 814 and try to beat the clock to win a Beats by Dr Dre portable speaker.
