Oldham Sixth Form College A Level Students visit Capita Translation and Interpreting

On Tuesday 16 June, Capita Translation and Interpreting (Capita TI) once again welcomed a group of students who are studying languages at A Level.

The purpose of the visit was to provide the students with information regarding the alternative career paths available, other than teaching, translating and interpreting, to those who wish to study languages at degree level.

Following the visit, Sarah Shaw, A Level French Tutor said ‘’For the second year running, Capita Translation and Interpreting kindly opened its doors and invited 11 of our A Level language students to spend a morning at their Head Offices in Delph, Oldham. The students had the unique opportunity to take part in a series of workshops which introduced them to the different careers within the organisation, which is part of Capita plc, the UK’s leading provider of business process management and integrated professional support service solutions. The workshops, delivered by multilingual professionals, focused on careers in Project Management, MarketingAccount Management, File Engineering, Bid Management and Vendor Management.

‘’Helping our students become more aware of the vast opportunities open to them as language students is very important for us. The staff at Capita TI have supported us in trying to achieve this and we are very grateful that our students have had the chance to learn from their experience and expertise.

‘’Also, for the first time, Capita TI is offering our students the opportunity to apply for a work experience placement during the summer break.’’

Nikki Richards, A Level Spanish student said ‘’The visit was really useful as I didn’t realise how many different careers there were through languages.’’

Four of the students have since applied to undertake a work experience placement with us during their summer break and we hope that during this time, we will inspire them further to continue their study of languages and demonstrate what an interesting and energetic career the language industry provides.
