Meet our new Corporate Business Development Manager, Alan, who will be helping legal and financial business with their translation and multilingual requirements. Based in Manchester, Alan tells us about his experience and what he hopes for his role at Capita TI.
Why did you join Capita?
The opportunity to join an already successful, established team at team Capita TI and help meet the ambition to drive our translation services deeper into new organisations in Manchester and other key Northern cities was a major attraction.
What’s your background?
I’m an experienced Sales and Business Development practitioner in banking/financial services, skilled at stimulating interest in and building demand for products and services.
Why did you want a role in Business Development?
Business development and creating new relationships motivates me. Helping and identifying time and money efficiencies across a new customers’ internal and external communication channels is where I want to be.
What would you consider to be your biggest professional success?
From a personal perspective, operating in a heavily regulated industry for over 20 years and supporting more than 250 corporates is, I think a success, particularly in light of all the challenges the financial sector experienced during the last 10 years.
From a business perspective, it was creating a solution to lending problems that facilitated new medical centres being developed in local communities that were in desperate need of modern, fit for purpose buildings and amenities.
What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
A mix of choosing to make something happen and not knowing where it may lead.
What are your hobbies outside of work?
Running 15 miles a week and learning new skills.
If you weren’t a Business Development Manager, what would you love to be doing?
My dream was to be a pro-footballer and I played semi-pro for a short time before I moved to London and my career developed.
Now, I’d love to be a business lecturer or coach and use some of my “how not to do things” experience!
Who inspires you?
Several old bosses have inspired me in different ways and I could say someone from the sporting world, but it’s those who are closest to me that win every time.
