I come from a town called Logroño, the capital of La Rioja, a northern region of Spain. Since I was a child, I’ve always enjoyed studying English. When I was in high school, I started studying French as well; I knew that I wanted to a career in the languages industry. This then led me to a degree in translation and interpreting.
I also studied German at university, and that was definitely a challenge. However, even though it was difficult, once I started practising and learning, it felt great! It felt like I’d accomplished something – another reason why I love languages.
When you study a subject that you really enjoy, it doesn’t feel like you are studying at all – you are learning.
Thanks to my degree, I had the opportunity to study abroad, in Ljubljana (Slovenia); I’m so glad I knew English! I had to go to university, meet other students and live by myself for the first time in another country, so I had to be able to communicate with people in a language other than my mother tongue.
In my opinion, the best way to learn a language is, first, to have interest in the culture of the places where it is spoken; and second, to go abroad and start practising it! Knowing another language allows us to discover new feelings, people, places, cultures! The world is too big to just stay in one place. Each language has its own perception of life, and the more languages you know, the more you broaden your mind.
I came to Capita TI as an intern as I wanted to learn more about the translation and interpreting industry. At university, we were taught how to translate, which CAT tools to use and how to use them, however, we were not taught about the industry as a whole, or how companies work, or at least, not from the inside.
I am so glad I decided to intern at Capita TI, as not only am I learning about the business as a translator, but now I am also learning about it as a Project Manager, and that is so far my biggest professional success.
Knowing that this experience is going to give me great insight and opportunities for the future is something that makes me get out of bed in the morning, without a doubt. For everyone out there thinking of starting an internship in a translation and interpreting company, I would highly recommend Capita TI!
