Yesterday, Capita TI’s Head of Marketing, Joanne Taylor, attended an International Women’s Day event at Preston College in Lancashire.
In partnership with the Lancashire Chamber of Commerce and ROLE, the aim of the day was to get young women between the ages of 16-18 to consider their career options, and to get advice and help from acting mentors within the business world.
The idea was to show the younger delegates the array of great career opportunities on their doorstep, but also what they can achieve with the right attitude and support.
In total the day comprised of 50 students who are studying an array of courses at Sixth Form level, and 50 women from a variety of businesses including finance, education, legal and consultancy backgrounds.
During the morning, guests heard from Lancashire women who have triumphed over adversity to achieve great things, and from this, went on to participate in facilitated table debates and motivational sessions. Plenty of discussions arose around work experience, access to careers advice and resources, pay discrepancy, access to Senior Management and Executive roles for women, links between businesses and education providers and funding for child care.
Attendees left feeling motivated, inspired and dedicated to go out there and to make good futures from themselves.
The girls even received a personalised video message from Lily James (star of Downton Abbey and Cinderella) inspiring them to chase their dreams and to not take no for an answer.
Take a look at some of the women at Capita TI who are achieving great things in the world of business:
